President Obama celebrated the new citizenship of 13 services members and 7 military spouses at today&rsquo;s ceremony. The President paid tribute to all those who served and fought for the United States in the Armed Forces, including generations of immigrants. The President also had the opportunity to highlight the important role of military spouses, 7 of whom were granted citizenship, for their commitment and service to the United States.</p> <p>Those honored came form 14 different countries, each with a unique and poignant personal story but all shared a common love of our country. We celebrate the true meaning of patriotism -- the love of a country that&rsquo;s so strong that these men and women were willing to risk their lives to defend our country even before they could call it their own. It is through the remarkable sacrifices of these 20 individuals that the power of immigrants in the United States is illustrated. These men and women defend our nation&rsquo;s freedom day after day or support their spouses who do so.</p> <p><a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/04/25/president-obama-welcomes-20-service-members-who-became-american-citizens-today" target="_blank">read more</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-link field-field-url"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Story URL:&nbsp;</div> <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/04/25/president-obama-welcomes-20-service-members-who-became-american-citizens-today" target="_blank">http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2014/04/25/president-obama-welcomes-20-service-me...</a> </div> </div> </div> 2014 Asia Trip <a href= Asia-Pacific Barack Obama Immigration Katherine Vargas Latino Official Pete Souza Robert Daum Seoul Seoul South Korea The President United States United States Walter Haith White House Fri, 25 Apr 2014 14:47:42 +0000 feed 273495 at http://newsmotion.org Building on What Works With My Brother’s Keeper http://newsmotion.org/feed-story-en/building-what-works-my-brother%E2%80%99s-keeper <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Building on What Works With My Brother’s Keeper </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-datetime field-field-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Thu, 04/17/2014</span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p class="p1">When President Obama launched the <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2014/02/27/fact-sheet-opportunity-all-president-obama-launches-my-brother-s-keeper-">My Brother&rsquo;s Keeper</a> initiative in February, the response from communities across the country was immediate and overwhelmingly positive.&nbsp; We quickly began hearing stories of creativity, collaboration, and triumphs from community leaders and organizations doing grassroots work to enhance opportunities for boys and young men of color. (Official White House Photo by Lawrence Jackson) </p> </div> </div> <p>In the last three weeks, the health insurance marketplaces opened for business across the country. This was great news for the 15 percent of Americans &ndash; including 10.2 million Latinos &ndash; who don&rsquo;t have health insurance, either because they can&rsquo;t afford it or because their employer doesn&rsquo;t offer it. At an event at the Rose Garden on Monday, the President discussed how the health care law is strengthening health plans and coverage for Americans. He was joined by consumers, small business owners, and pharmacists who have either benefitted from the health care law already or are helping consumers learn about what the law means for them and how they can get covered.</p> <p>Among those participating in the event was Jessica Ugalde. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Jessica was able to stay on her mother&rsquo;s insurance and receive treatment for a serious illness. Before health reform was enacted, recent college graduates like Jessica would have lost their health insurance when they left home or graduated from school. Young people in their first job were often forced to choose between paying their rent or maintaining their health insurance.&nbsp; The ACA changed this, by allowing young adults to be <a href="http://www.hhs.gov/healthcare/rights/youngadults/index.html">on their parents&rsquo; plan until age 26.</a>&nbsp;This policy has already benefitted <a href="http://aspe.hhs.gov/health/reports/2012/YoungAdultsbyGroup/ib.shtml">913,000</a>&nbsp;Latino young adults who otherwise would have been uninsured. Because of the provision of the ACA that allows young people under the age of 26 to stay on a parent&rsquo;s insurance, Jessica received the treatment she needed, quickly got better and was able to interview for a job which she still holds today.</p> <p><a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2013/10/25/affordable-health-care-brings-peace-mind-young-latinos-jessica-ugalde-s-story" target="_blank">read more</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-link field-field-url"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="field-label-inline-first"> Story URL:&nbsp;</div> <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2013/10/25/affordable-health-care-brings-peace-mind-young-latinos-jessica-ugalde-s-story" target="_blank">http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2013/10/25/affordable-health-care-brings-peace-mi...</a> </div> </div> </div> <a href= Antoinette Rangel Barack Obama Health Care Jessica Ugalde Katherine Vargas Latino Lawrence Jackson Official White House Fri, 25 Oct 2013 14:45:17 +0000 feed 189159 at http://newsmotion.org Speaker Boehner Has a Choice to Make http://newsmotion.org/feed-story-en/speaker-boehner-has-choice-make <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Speaker Boehner Has a Choice to Make </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-datetime field-field-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Mon, 09/23/2013</span> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-teaser"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p class="p1">Ed.
